Easy ways to switch from smoking to vaping

You have decided to quit smoking? Great! It is the very best thing you can do to improve your health.

We know that it is not easy but be sure that you can do it. You’re more likely to quit cigarettes for good if you prepare for the feelings that come with quitting smoke, because nicotine is a highly addictive substance and your body will need to get used to being without it again. The good news is that there is no reason to leave your body without it!

Get ready to stop smoking by following the below steps, by taking one step at a time.

1. Set the day that you will quit smoking and take a no smoking pledge. Choose a date when you will stop using cigarettes and start only vaping. Make a commitment in front of people who will support you on your path to quitting. Use the time until your quit day to prepare and to gradually cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke or use other tobacco products, while increasing your vaping time.

Take the pledge: “I promise to not smoke or use any tobacco products after my quit day. I know it is a serious danger to my (and my family’s) health. I will also try to stay away from secondhand smoke and encourage and support others to quit smoking and using tobacco products.”

2. Choose your method for quitting.
There are several ways to quit smoking. You can choose one or use them in combination – whatever you think will work best for you.

a. Stop smoking all at once on your quit day. This method works best for some people because it does not drag out the quitting process.

b. Cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke until you stop completely. For example, if you smoke 20 cigarettes each day, cut down to 10 per day for two to three days. Next, cut it down to five cigarettes for two to three days. Keep track on a calendar. By your quit day, stop smoking completely. Vape as much as you can during this period.

Smoke only part of each cigarette, reducing the amount and at the same time substitute the missing amount of nicotine by vaping, until you stop smoking completely. Count how many puffs you normally take from each cigarette, then reduce the number of puffs every two to three days and replace them with vape puffs. Keep track on a calendar. On your quit day, stop smoking completely.

3. Talk with your health care professional and decide if you’ll need medicines or other help to successfully quit but if you follow our recomentations we doupt you will need any expert to help you quitting smoke.

4. Make a plan for your quit day and afterward. Have healthy snacks available:
fruits and vegetables
nuts and seeds
air-popped popcorn
sugar-free mints and chewing gum

4.1 Find enjoyable ways to fill the time when you may be tempted to smoke:
Go to a movie.
Work out or go to the gym.
Visit friends that vape.
Take a walk.
Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while vaping.
Try a new hobby that occupies your hands, such as painting, playing an instrument, woodworking or knitting.
Work in the yard or garden.
Get rid of every cigarette, match, lighter, ashtray and any other tobacco product in your home, office and car.

5. And finally, quit tobacco for good on your quit day!

The method that worked for me is described below:

I started with an e-liquid at 18mg of nicotine. I still had the appetite for smoke but the amount of nicotine from vape was so big that I couldn’t smoke.
Sometimes I was trying not to vape for a long time to find again my appetite for smoke. It was nice for a while but the willing for vape was there after 3 days of vaping.
As the days were passing, my willingness to smoke was declining without any effort.
Finally, after one week I didnt like smoking so much anymore and I also loved the tobacco flavor that I was using. The amount of 18mg of nicotine was also started to annoy me, so I went down to 9mg.
After 16 years, I still vape at 9mg of nicotine without touching cigarettes, and I really hate how they smell.

But the most important of all is to connect your relax or anxious moments with e-cigarettes. That way, you will know that vape will be your friend in good times and bad.
